why are planters so expensive?

I would like to line our roof deck with tall prairie grass and am on the hunt for planters. Holy hell. Why is a box so freakin’ expensive!?

I think I saw a tutorial once online for making them, and it didn’t look too bad — and I’m NOT a crafty sort. I love the idea of prairie grass on your roof!
